Yee...Freakin Sparkly Red...Haw! The People of Walmart!

That's right folks!  She stopped by the kiddie section of our local Walmart before grocery shopping!   I understand we're in TX so cowboy hats seem natural!  I understand that sparkles are necessary in life.  But if you can't pull it off, well...you just can't!

And seriously dude?  Those are the shorts you chose to go shopping in?  No wonder she had the desire to wear that hat oddly around her neck like that!  She wanted to blend with you!

And nice tennis shoes guys!  They of course complete your outfits!  Oh and they "blend" on the island, since that is obviously what you are trying to do here!  Good job guys...good job!

Hope you enjoyed this edition of "The People of Walmart"!  I did!

He Finally Caught A Shark!

We've lived on the island for about a year and a half now.  My husband loves to fish.  It's almost an obsession at this point.  He's wanted to catch a shark.  He misses a lot of fish trying to catch the "big one".  So Saturday, they headed out!  He and his buddies were on a mission!  And "IT" happened!
OK...I know it's not a great picture.  Actually, it's pretty crappy (it was late at night/early morning and they were using cell phones), but you get it right?  He did it!  He finally did it!  And he didn't just catch ONE shark, he ended up catching FOUR of them!  This was the "big'un".  It measured 5' long and was approximately 50 pounds.

They were out there until 2:00 AM fishing!  Then here until 4:00 AM cleaning and filleting (ewwahh)!  We, well "they", had seared red wine vinaigrette shark for dinner last night and they LOVED it!  Best fish (chicken according to Bug) they've ever eaten.

Hopefully he's over his addiction.  Maybe this just fueled it.  Who knows?  But how cool is that?  He caught a freakin shark (and 4 of them at that)!

Trying to Make #NutritionPossible for This Busy Mom with Centrum ProNutrients

As you all know, I am a 40 (err...umm, yea something) year old mother of 6 children from the ages of 22 all the way down to 2!  I'm a busy mom.  I work from home, I clean constantly, I cook, I blog, and all the while I try to keep up with these babies!

I try to live a healthy lifestyle, I try to eat well.  But this doesn't always work out for me.  In fact, it rarely does.  I'm just too busy to pay attention to what or when I'm eating!  And often, I just don't eat at all!

So I take vitamins and supplements (in an attempt to fill all of the voids in my diet), and I stay active.  Of course I stay active!  I'm always running after the babies!  No matter where we are, they are running and I'm the one that runs after them!

I recently discovered the new Centrum ProNutrients Line of supplements and did some research to see if they would be right for me and my needs.

They have a fruit and veggie supplement that is 100% naturally sourced from grapes, blueberries, raspberries, plums, carrots, and tomatoes.  It claims to support cell protection and general health (which is exactly what I need).

They have an Omega 3 supplement said to promote heart health, as well as brain and eye structures.  Intriguing for sure.  I think this will be the next thing I add.
And they offer a Probiotic.  I am already taking another brand and it has done wonders for me with my digestive health.  If the fruit and veggie supplements work, I believe I'll be trying these out as well.

I liked what I read and decided I should definitely go with the fruit and veggie supplements to add to my daily regime of a multivitamin, zinc, calcium, and probiotic.  I'm hopeful that this new regime will help me in my plight to keep up, stay active, and stay healthy!  "At my age", it's important to maintain my health so that I can keep up with the babies now and be around for them for many years to come!
There really is A LOT of running, playing, skipping, twirling, and jumping left to do before they are grown!  I have to stay healthy, I have to stay active, so I've made up my mind!  I will do everything possible to maintain my health for them!

Before heading to Walmart, I again visited the Centrum site where I was able to print a $3.00 off coupon for Centrum ProNutrients.  The babies and I loaded up and headed out on our daily (yes daily) shop. You can view that below if you'd like to see what we found and an insight into my decision-making process.

I'm really hopeful that these Centrum ProNutrient fruit and veggie supplements will give me the added boost I'm looking for!  As of yesterday, I have added them to my daily routine and I'm keeping my fingers crossed!  I'm a busy mom, that won't change.  I've tried to change my eating habits, but can't seem to "fix" that.  I always remember to take my vitamins before going to bed so hopefully getting two extra servings of fruits and veggies (one serving per mini tab and you take 2 a day) will be exactly what I need!

I'll be back to tell you the results in about a month so stay tuned!  Now if you'll pardon me, I need to go run after the babies!

My Miracle! My Little Hot Mess! My Bug! She's 5! OMG...Where Has The Time Gone?

You see that cutie up there?  That hot mess?  That's my Bug!

She's 5 now!  As of today actually!  All "growed" up!  WOW...where has the time gone?

This was my miracle baby.  Seriously, I shouldn't have been able to have anymore.  My "big girls" were all but grown, and I got pregnant with Bug.

We all felt blessed.  We were blessed!  But let me tell you right now, we had NO CLUE what we were getting ourselves in to with THIS one!  WOW...just WOW!  She's a hand full for sure!  She's nothing like you've ever experienced.  But she is still a blessing!

There is not a day that goes by that I don't thank my lucky stars that she came along!  And there's not a day that goes by that I don't feel like pulling my hair out!  I love this little girl!  She is the apple of her daddy's eye and she's my baby girl!

I love her and I am thankful to have been blessed with her presence in this world!  I just wish she'd cut me a break every once in a while!

Happy birthday Bug!  Mommy, Daddy, Bry, Paet, Bubby, Matt and Angel love you with all of our hearts.  You were the glue that bound us together!  Now let's get on to that discipline thing, it'll help later...I promise!

Happy Birthday!  Mommy loves you my little miracle!

My Little Old Man

My son is only 2.  He's a natural born comedian!  His laugh makes everyone laugh.  His every action is animated.  He is a blessing.  He is a young soul (yes I believe in young and old souls, so what?) but he is so much like a little old man that I can't help but laugh.

We often call him Ralph.  The name of my husband's father.  He is an elderly, quirky man that does crazy stuff.  My Bubby is much like him and we love him for it.  But when this baby sleeps?  It's like watching an angel!  Looks like a tiny little old man, doesn't he?  You want to pinch those cheeks, don't you?  You wanna kiss him, don't you?

Yea, me too!  I love this little guy!

Car and Motorcycle Tune Up with #MurphyUSA! Yes You Can @MurphyUSA! #CBias

For most of you, Winter is approaching fast and it's time to get your vehicles ready for the cold weather!  That's not the case here on the island of course, but a routine tune up is always in order no matter what climate you live in!  And as you can see, it was time for mine!
My husband performs all of the maintenance on our vehicles and we usually purchase the supplies at Walmart.  So when I was challenged by my friends at Collective Bias to purchase my tune up supplies at Murphy USA, I was intrigued!  Seriously?  My tune up supplies at Murphy USA?  I already know they have the cheapest gas on the island (and obviously I needed that too) as I told you here, and I know they have great drinks and snacks, but tune up supplies?  I didn't even know they carried them!

So we loaded up the car and headed to our local Murphy USA to fill up and check out the supplies!
And there they were!  Right up front.  You have to walk by them to pay and I'd never even noticed them there!  Ahhh...always in my own little world!  So I let B out in front and drove around to find an open pump, pulled up, and got out to go see what they had to offer!
We definitely needed windshield washer fluid because it is so salty here and you honestly have to use this before even pulling out onto the road just so you can see!  They carry the Peak Performance Brand at a good price, so we chose that!  They also carry different grades of oil, Fix-A-Flat, gas additives and more.  I really was surprised!
B's oil of choice is Castroil but our Murphy USA doesn't carry that.  They offer their own brand and Penzoil.  He's not a fan of Penzoil and after reading the label on the Murphy Brand, he selected it.  Surprisingly, the prices were quite comparable to Walmart and auto part stores, but we were a little bummed that they don't carry the larger containers of oil.  You always save money when you buy in bulk.  Hey, where's that Murphy USA suggestion box?

We need spark plugs for the car as well, but they don't carry anything like that.  We'll have to get those later to make that pesky little light turn off!
He put gas in the car (all the while attempting to scold me for running it so low again, but I didn't let him speak on that matter), we purchased our supplies, and headed home for a little tune up time!
This trip, we didn't need much.  The car just had an oil change but was in dire need of the windshield washer fluid (I usually just pour water in there and get scolded for that as well, but I don't listen)The oil was purchased for his motorcycle.  It is his daily ride back and forth to work and we really need to keep it maintained.  It saves us a lot of money on gas!

The car first!  He poured in the windshield washer fluid and we still have half of the jug left to use next time!

Then he checked the oil anyway, as well as the rest of the fluids, and everything was fine (except of course those silly old spark plugs)!

Then on to his baby!  He poured in the Murphy oil, checked the levels, and of course pointed out (again) that he needs a new front tire.  Gesh, it's always something, isn't it?  He checked all of the other "stuff" on the motorcycle and everything else seemed good to go!

That's it!  He was through for now!  All the fluids were changed, replenished, or topped off...whatever it was they needed, it was done!  Next week, apparently it's spark plugs and tires (which does NOT please me)!
The motorcycle sure looks happy though, doesn't it?  I guess it really liked the Murphy USA Oil

I actually really liked the convenience of being able to fill up, buy the tune up supplies, and even a drink, all in one spot without having to get everyone out of the car!  Who knew?  Not me!  But I do now, and so do you!

You can see our entire shopping experience at Murphy USA (including some beautiful pictures from our drive over to Murphy USA of course) by clicking through my ThisMoment story below!  I just love the stories in pictures!  So much more telling than words sometimes!

Mompact Blog Hop: Kidzikoo Giveaway

Mompact, founded and operated by Shelley Straitiff, is an awesome site/community that links Mom Inventors with Mom Bloggers in order to promote their products to all of the Moms out there!  Pretty cool huh?  Well Mompact is hosting a blog hop and giveaway from September 12th through the 17th.  This hop spans over 120 blogs promoting and GIVING AWAY (that's right, FREE) products from almost 40 Mom Inventors.  This is HUGE people!

I am stoked to announce that I get to giveaway a Kidzikoo to one of my lucky readers!  What's a Kidzikoo you ask?  Why it's a koozie for kids of course!  It comes in 5 adorable patterns, and one size fits most 8-12 oz. bottles and/or sippy cups.
The Kidzikoo was invented by Lindsay Coleman (she's a pretty awesome lady and you can read all about her on her site) about a year ago when she realized that her son's little hands were actually freezing after holding his cold bottle.  She searched for a koozie online but could find nothing!  So out of necessity, she invented the Kidzikoo to solve their problem and began marketing it!  And the awesomeness of this cute functional Kidzikoo is that it is made of Neoprene which means, it not only keeps cold drinks cold, it also keeps warm drinks warm!

I love the concept of this product and have 2 on the way and can't wait to get them and put them to the test!  In the meantime, Lindsay has graciously offered to give you, one of my fabulous readers, your very own Kidzikoo for your little one!  Just enter per the requirements below and you could be the winner!  The contest closes at midnight on 09/17/11.  The winner will be notified within 48 hours of closing!

And after entering my giveaway, might I suggest you go visit my friend over at Staying Me who is also participating in this HUGE event and hosting a giveaway for Boogie Wipes?  I have tried them and it's another terrific mom-invented product!  Just click on the sprinkles below!

We Actually Did Bring the Sunshine In! #GliddenGallons #CBias

Well, we did it!  Two weeks of hard work, a few mishaps involving a change of plans, and a lot of Glidden Brilliance Paint, we actually brought the sunshine in to the babies' room and it is AWE-SOME!

As I told you here, we were given a fabulous opportunity to makeover the babies' room by our  friends at Glidden Walmart and Collective Bias.  We had big plans for this room which you can read about here.

I often have "plans" but they rarely happen as I had expected.  I am the mother of 6 children from the ages of 22 to 2.  Things happen.  Plans change.  I've learned to roll with it over the years and I've found that sometimes they work out better than expected thanks to the little mishaps in life!

This makeover was no exception to those rules!  The original plan to paint the one wall, some trim, organize, replace dresser knobs, and add some artwork to the walls didn't happen.  Instead, on the first day of the project, I was busy organizing and my babies were busy flipping off of the end of Bug's bed (yes, I was actually in the room with them when this happened).  OH SNAP (literally) the bar on the end of her bed broke off and took chunks of wood with it.

After my nervous breakdown, I pulled myself together and formulated a new plan of action.  I finished organizing the room, cleaning out drawers, sorting through old toys, just the usual (still sobbing of course).  When B got home from work, he fixed the bed.  That very night, I began to paint it.  I opened up my can of Canary Song Glidden Brilliance 2N1 (yes it's a paint and primer all in one, how cool is that?) and the new plan began.
This just made her dresser look even worse than I thought, so I painted it...
Which of course made the armoire look like hammered horse dung, so I painted it...
Which made me decide that I really do like the WHITE in this room (with the yellow) so the dingy whitish closet doors and trim, looked...well...dingy!  Guess what I did?  Yup, I went back to Walmart and bought some Glidden Brilliance Paint in White, and I painted them and added princess appliques (with sparkles of course)!
By now you might have noticed that Bubby's side had been neglected!  Never fear, I hit that side up too!  His side was "dark".  The furniture is in good condition so didn't want to paint it.  I, however, painted the knobs on his dresser with the white which really brightened it up.
And although we couldn't swing a new bed *SIGH* for him, I did get him a new gwanket (blanket) and headow (pillow).  Cars of course!  And I hung Cars appliques by his bed as well.
I would be remiss if I didn't mention that I had managed to paint all of the picture frames that were already in their room, as well as dig up some old ones to repaint so I could hang more pictures.  I finished hanging the wall art, including Princess appliques on Bug's side and Cars appliques on Bubby's side.  I would also be remiss if I didn't tell you that I am SO happy that I picked the Glidden Brilliance 2N1 Paint.  I can't imagine when I would have gotten all of that furniture done if I'd had to prime first!

Talk about bringing the sunshine in!  I knew their room was boring, but I absolutely had no idea HOW boring it was!  Thanks to Glidden Brilliance Collection 2N1 Paint + Primer, Walmart Paint, and Collective Bias, my babies have the happiest, sun shiniest room I've ever seen!  Don't you just love it?

Since these few pictures (yes, in my opinion, that is only a few) don't do the room justice, I've put together a little slide show so you can see the full week in progress and all of the before and afters.  So sit back, listen to the music, and enjoy the sun shiny, sparkly awesomeness!  Shine on!

"Place of Remembrance"

This statue entitled "Place of Remembrance" by Galvestonian artist David Moore was dedicated on September 9, 2000 in memory of the 10,000 plus islanders that lost their lives in the Galveston Storm of 1900.  It sits prominently on our seawall, standing 10-feet tall, as a memorial to those lost at sea as well as to the strength of the survivors that stayed to rebuild this beautiful island that we call home.

My kids are drawn to this statue.  There are many on the island, but this is their favorite.  I don't know that they "get" it's meaning, but it's presence and vibe are so powerful that they insist we stop at it each and every time.

Someday they will understand the devastation that their island and it's people have endured over the years, more than once unfortunately.  And they will understand the sufferings and the bravery, and they will "get" this statue, and they will feel sadness!  But for now, I'm glad they just enjoy the beauty!

I Love Him Because....

That guy over there in the red hat.  The one with my Bubby.  I love him for many reasons but I have "favorite" moments that get me through the rough spots and love that they keep on coming (the favorites of course, not the rough spots).

And yes, we have "rough" spots.  All couples do.  If anyone tells you they have a perfect marriage, they are either lying to you or to themselves!

Marriage is rough!  Life is tough!  But being able to hang on to the good stuff and holding on to what really matters?  Now that's the important stuff!  We've maintained the balance!

My husband is not always (rarely) eloquent.  He doesn't always do or say the right things.  But every once in awhile, he throws in something that sticks with me forever and I cherish those moments!

My photographic mind has these cherished moments embedded.  And although there are actually quite a few of these etched memories, 3 stand out and carry me through the "rough" spots!

I met this man over 9 years ago (and married him a little over 8 years ago) and together we have 6 children (2 mine, 2 his, 2 ours).  It's been a wild ride!  When we first got together, I was a VERY independent single mom.  I would not receive help from anyone!  I had this and the girls and I were just fine!  He offered, I always refused!

But he and "his" kids were spending a lot of time at our house, and I was cooking for them a lot!  That's what I do.  I love to take care of people, especially those that I love!  But the grocery bill was climbing so after MANY offers, I took him up on it and "let" him pay for the groceries!  He was elated!  He had wanted to help.  He felt like he was taking advantage of me.  He wasn't since I wasn't allowing his help, but that's how he felt, so I gave in.

Somehow, he and I got a day to ourselves!  My girls were with friends, and his kids were with their mother (cough cough...yes, that's what we'll call her).  So we headed to Walmart for some grocery shopping!

I did my usual budget shopping, asking him along the way if he wanted this or that.  He kept saying "Whatever you want baby".  So I just did the usual shop.  I really wanted him to participate but he didn't.  I finally just asked what he wanted and wasn't going to take another no answer as an answer.  I noticed him grinning as he pushed the buggy.  Why wouldn't he answer me?  UGH men!  Then he said it!

#1:  "I'm just here to push the buggy and sign the check!".  Yes he was proud and I had to smile!  Matter of fact, that was 9 years ago and it still makes me smile!  It was a good day and I went home and cooked us all dinner with the groceries HE purchased!

Then, a few months later, we caught another alone moment (wish we could find one or two of these more often), and we were sitting in the field on my property in Georgia.  It was raining but we didn't care!

Please understand that I had convinced myself that I would never marry again (2-time loser was enough for me) and he knew this!  But sitting there, in the rain, with this man I had grown to love with all of my heart, he dropped the bomb!  And the bomb was eloquent (whether you think so or not)

#2:  "Will you change your name just one more time?  I promise, it'll never happen again!"  And this was the proposal that changed my life!

There have been countless "moments" since then that I could share with you, but just recently, he hit another all timer for me and this is the last (of many I hope) that sticks with me and makes me smile on a daily basis.

We've been hit by this damned recession.  It's been rough, but we pay the bills, we have a roof over our heads, and the kids are fed.  That's what matters.

He gets depressed that he can't do more for us.  He works hard, very hard.  I appreciate it very much!  So much so that since I haven't worked (ha ha...outside of the home that is) in the past 2 years, I was feeling guilty for the pressure I was putting on him!  I have skills, I am very good in my field.  I could get a job.  It wouldn't be easy in this economy and I'd have to leave the babies.  But I could get a job!

I broached the subject again one night.  I don't want to leave the babies and he knows that.  But I brought it up and he knew I was serious.

Understand that I do EVERYTHING for this man and this family.  I cook every day.  I do all of the laundry.  I do all of the cleaning.  I pay all of the bills (with his money of course).  You name it, I do it!  It's my "job" now.  He shouldn't have to do a thing while he's here.  He supports us so I should do the rest.  NOT because he expects it, but because I WANT to!

So after dinner as I'm cleaning up the kitchen after cooking for my family, while I'm preparing his lunch for the next day, he walks into the kitchen, gives me a huge hug and kiss and drops the next one.

#3:  "You can't go back to work baby!  Who will take care of me?".

Yes, I'm sure he likes the servitude (LOL...it's NOT that bad) but he doesn't want me to go back to work because he wants to take care of us!

I love this man!  I'm thankful everyday to have him in my life!  I love that he calls my daughters his own.  He doesn't do any of this because he has to, he does it all because that's who he is!  He's a good man and I love him!
We'll keep making it through the "rough spots" and some day soon, everything will be fine again on the economic front!  But I don't put much stock in that part.

As they say, "money can't buy you love" and that's true!  True love is all about "the moments" and if you find that, cherish it and hold on to it!

I know I do and I always will!

Dad Wasn't Always Right....1985!

My parents were often right!   Most of the time actually!

My Dad always said, "you'll change your political views Christy!". He was right!

"Christy, respect you're Mom, she's always right".  He was right!

"Christy, life is not always roses?"  OMG...was he right on that one?!

"Christy, you might not understand now, but things will come full circle and you'll 'get' it one day"....yes he was very right there!

He always said "Life will deal you lemons (I chose lemonade, thanks Mom)".  He never did!  But I've come to understand Mom is the cheerleader and Dad is the "let's keep it real" person!  Thanks Mom and Dad!  You need that balance!

But Dad wasn't always right (there is a God)!  He always said "stop putting so much stock in your friends, you won't remember their names in 5 years, let alone 20".  On this little piece of advice, he was so wrong, wrong, wrong!   I don't know if  I have the internet, or my phone, or technology in general to thank for this one, but Dad was wrong!   I am still friends with all/most of my high school friends, and I'm just thankful to have them in my life!

I "talk" to them!  I call them, I text them, I FB message them.  We are friends til the end!  How cool is that?

So with all of that said, I hope you'll watch the little picture show I put together and enjoy the awesomeness that I grew up with!

Thanks Dad for all of the life lessons but thank you for being wrong on this one!  Yes, I still know their names!

Yes, I know their kids' names!  I know where they work!  I know what they do on a daily basis!  I still love them as much as I did when you told me to stop "putting so much stock in them".  They are worth it Dad!  They really are!
